Welcome to the Maquoketa Valley CSD Gifted and Talented education blog! As G/T Coordinator, it's always my goal to improve communication with teachers, students, and parents, as it relates to gifted education. This blog will be utilized to:

1. provide program information.
2. provide teachers and students with information about G/T related contests, events, and programs.
3. provide teachers with informative items that can be applied in the classroom.
4. communicate with students, teachers, and parents, through the use of the comment area on each post.

Gifted & Talented Identification Process

The G/T Coordinator analyzes student data for the start of each school semester.  Students may be selected for the G/T program in any of the following ways:
  • Standardized Tests: ITBS (Iowa Norms), NWEA MAP Tests (Percentile Rank): 
    • 95% minimum in two or more areas:
      • Reading Total
      • Language Total
      • Mathematics Total
      • Social Studies
      • Science
    • and/or combined with an 85% minimum in one of the following areas:
      • Core
      • Composite
  • Teacher Nomination:
    • Teachers may bring students to the attention of the G/T Coordinator that they feel would benefit from program services.  Nomination forms are available upon request.
  • Parent Nomination:
    • Parents may bring their child to the attention of the G/T Coordinator if they feel their child would benefit from G/T services.  At which time, the G/T Coordinator will seek statistical data and teacher input to back up the claim.  Based upon collected information, the student may, or may not take part in the G/T program.
